Like a finger pointing to the moon

A birdwatching hide is visible from multiple low angles as dusk falls. The viewing hatches of the hide are closed. Behind us we hear the gradually emergent songs and calls of shore-birds & waders. As the sounds of the birds grow in volume and density we see nothing other than the closed hide against the darkening sky. Nobody is watching, who is listening?

"The truth and the words are unrelated. The truth can be compared to the moon. And words can be compared to a finger. I can use my finger to point out the moon, but my finger is not the moon, and you don't need my finger to see the moon, do you?"
